Wedding party introductions are the official start of the reception portion of the evening, usually after the ceremony and cocktail hour. When cocktail hour is done, the DJ will line everyone up at the entrance to the dance floor. Your DJ should go over all of your names, how they are pronounced, and the order that everyone will be walking out in. Wedding party introductions are usually followed by the Bride and Groom having their first dance together. This is the most special and sacred point of their wedding reception. There are many different ways that intro’s can be done, and we’ll go through a few different methods. The most important thing to remember: make sure you’re working with a DJ who can customize your intros according to how you like them!
Standard Intro’s happen when the wedding party is walking out to maybe 1 or 2 songs. Some couples choose to have mom/dad and sometimes grandpa/grandma walk out to an old song from their past that gets them excited, letting them know how much you honor them in your life and in your wedding. The DJ then might switch to a different song for the rest of the wedding party, usually ending after the best man and maid of honor. Of course there are different ways of doing it; some couples choose just 1 song for the entire wedding party.
Customized Intro’s can be done a number of ways. Some couples choose to have a customized song for each and every couple in their wedding party that’s being introduced. It might be a song that is funny to that couple; you can really get people to laugh and enjoy that part of the intro’s! Some couples (including bride and groom) even have their own dance routines, or a skit they act out when their song is playing. We’ve seen some hilarious stuff through the years! Keep in mind this is a great time to get the party started and get people excited!
The most important thing to remember is to HAVE FUN WITH YOUR INTRO’S! Also, make sure you choose upbeat songs that get the crowd ready to have fun. You want to let your guests know that you guys came to party, and this is and always will be a night to remember!
